Economics: Concepts & People takes complex economic concepts and breaks them down in a way that high beginner to intermediate English language learners can readily understand. The book also uniquely features the stories of a number of important female and male historical figures who contributed to the development of the subject, presenting a human side in addition to full coverage of the technical aspects. Through this dual focus, Economics: Concepts & People aims to both educate and inspire, while providing a balance of skills and vocabulary as well as plenty of opportunities for classroom interaction.

In each of the 14 units, Part A features the concepts, including micro vs macroeconomics, inflation and deflation, the stock market, capitalism, cashless societies, and many more, while Part B looks at the people, including Adam Smith, Joan Robinson, John Maynard Keynes, Ester Duflo, and Hirofumi Uzawa, among others. Both parts can be covered in a single session or they can have a class each, allowing the book to be used over a quarter, semester, or full academic year.

As well as warm ups, vocabulary, readings, and discussions, listening input is provided via a series of bespoke podcast episodes that explore the unit themes more deeply. The book includes two review units and additional activities, while more supplementary materials and practice can be obtained via the Teacher’s Guide and optional Online Learning Support (OLS).
