Low signal Sailorfold Bronzeward (English Edition)

The sea had a way of etching itself into a man’s bones, like salt pressed into old rope. Sailorfold Bronzeward knew this truth better than most, and yet as his small vessel cut across the foam toward the familiar crescent of Bronzeward Harbor, he felt like a stranger approaching a land of ghosts.
It had been twelve years since he had last seen the jagged shoreline of his birth. Twelve years since he’d stood beneath the great stone arches of the port gates, where the townsfolk once gathered to welcome ships with cheers, song, and the clattering of mugs. In those days, the Bronzeward coast had been the beating heart of trade—lanterns glowing late into the night, sails crowding the horizon, and the streets thrumming with sailors, merchants, and wanderers. But now, from his vantage on the water, Sailorfold saw none of that vibrancy. The harbor was strangely quiet. No ships rocked at anchor, no voices carried across the air. The gulls screamed above the water, but their cries were sharp and lonely, as if filling the silence that men and women no longer dared to break.
The closer his ship crept toward the docks, the more unease tightened its grip upon him. The once-proud masts that had risen like a forest above the wharves were absent. Only a handful of vessels lingered, and even those looked neglected—sails patched and frayed, hulls sagging with mildew. Nets hung drying along the posts, but no fishermen tended them. It was as though the town had collectively drawn its breath and forgotten to exhale.
Sailorfold placed a hand on the railing of his ship. His knuckles were broad, scarred from storms and blades alike, but at that moment his grip trembled slightly. He had weathered cyclones and seen men vanish into depths darker than any midnight, yet the eerie stillness of Bronzeward unnerved him more deeply than any tempest.
“Captain,” called a voice behind him.
It was Marrow, the only companion who had followed him from his last voyage. A wiry man with eyes too large for his thin face, Marrow was not born for the sea but had clung to it out of desperation. He gestured with his chin toward the empty wharf. “Where is everyone? Not a soul to greet us?”
Sailorfold frowned. “Stay sharp. I don’t like this.”
He guided the vessel in with a practiced hand, the tiller stiff beneath his grip. The ropes were cast, the plank dropped.
