This classic collection of fantastic blues songs – originally published and arranged in 1926 – contains more than 100 incredibly arrangements for both voice and piano. Arranged by the Father of the Blues himself - “W.C.” William Christopher Handy – was among the first black men to write and publish blues music at a time when rights for African Americans were severely limited.
His work is regarded as making the “Delta Blues” more than a regional anomaly and elevating it to an accessible, accepted, and most importantly, commercially popular in America and abroad.

About the Author: “W.C.” William Christopher Handy was an American composer and musician who referred to himself as the Father of the Blues. Handy was one of the most influential songwriters in the United States. He was an educated, prolific musician who used elements of folk music in his compositions- frequently incorporating and documenting the references and inspiration of his work which incorporated stylistic influences from various performers.
About the Illustrator: Miguel Covarrubias, also known as José Miguel Covarrubias Duclaud was a Mexican painter, caricaturist, illustrator, ethnologist and art historian. Along with his American colleague Matthew W. Stirling, he was the co-discoverer of the Olmec civilization.
