Descrição do livro

The forest never truly slept.
Even in the deepest hour before dawn, when the air hung thick with dew and silence pressed close between the trees, life moved — softly, cautiously — in the hidden hollows of Nightthicket. The moss breathed faint green light, insects murmured beneath bark, and the low hum of the world kept time with the wind’s heartbeat.
Dayranger moved through it like a shadow.
He had long ago learned how to walk without sound — how to let the ground accept his weight rather than resist it. His boots, wrapped in wolf-hide, pressed against damp soil as he passed between the twisting roots of elder trees. A flicker of gold — faint as a candle behind glass — pulsed beneath the green carpet. Dayranger froze. He knew the forest’s rhythms as one knows their own breath, and this was not natural. He scraped back a handful of moss and soil, revealing the faintest glimmer of emberlight swirling beneath.
It shouldn’t be possible.
“By the roots,” he muttered, voice barely audible, “the fire sleeps no longer.”
The Rootfire — an ancient legend. The elders said it had been sealed generations ago, buried deep under Nightthicket to keep the forest alive. The Skyborn once tried to claim it, long before Dayranger’s time, and the war that followed had burned half the valley black. If this glow was
