My Working World is Book 5 of the CurioSteps STEM Series, created by Francis Mushi, PhD, MBA. It has 176 full-colour pages, 28 chapters and six hands-on investigations covering the Grade 5 programme: the human body, changes in matter, forces on structures and energy conservation.

The five units

• 1. I Am a STEM Investigator: evidence, fair tests with one named variable, averages, bar graphs and code using a conditional.

• 2. My Amazing Body: organ systems, digestion, breathing, circulation, bones and muscles, nerves and healthy habits.

• 3. Matter Can Change: mass and volume, solids, liquids and gases, particle theory, heating and cooling, and physical and chemical changes.

• 4. Forces and Strong Structures: forces, dead and live loads, compression, tension, struts and ties, stability and centre of gravity.

• 5. Saving Energy, Saving Earth: six forms of energy, transformations, renewable and non-renewable sources, turbines and conservation.

Written at the right level, and measured to prove it

Every word of child-facing text was run through readability analysis. Results are Flesch-Kincaid grade 3.7 across all text, 5.2 across connected prose and chapter hooks, and reading ease 83. Body text is set in Andika at 17 point, a typeface designed for beginning readers.
