Descrição do livro

Electrical engineering sits at the foundation of nearly every technology that shapes modern life — from the wiring that lights a home to the generators that power a city, from the sensors in a mobile phone to the motors that drive an electric vehicle. Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering has been written to give students, instructors, and practicing engineers a single, coherent, and rigorous account of the subject, spanning six interconnected pillars: circuits, electrical machines, power systems, measurements, electronics, and their applications.
This book grew out of the observation that many students encounter these six areas as isolated courses, taught in isolation and often by different instructors using notation and conventions that don’t quite match. As a result, the deep connections between them — the way a transformer’s equivalent circuit is really just an AC network problem, or the way a measurement instrument’s accuracy is governed by the same circuit theorems used to analyze a filter — are frequently lost. This book instead builds the subject as one continuous, layered structure: circuit theory in Part I lays the mathematical and conceptual foundation; Part II shows how those same tools describe the behaviour of transformers and rotating machines; Part III scales the picture up to entire power systems; Part IV turns the lens inward to how electrical quantities are measured and instruments designed; Part V introduces the semiconductor devices and digital building blocks that now sit inside almost every electrical system; and Part VI closes with applications — renewable energy, electric drives, smart grids, and the direction the field is heading.
How this book is organized. Each chapter opens with a short set of learning objectives, develops the theory with worked examples and clearly labelled circuit diagrams, and closes with a chapter summary, a set of review questions, and numerical problems of increasing difficulty. Key formulas are boxed for quick reference, and comparison tables are used throughout to summarize standards, machine types, instrument classes, and device characteristics side by side. All figures in this book — circuit schematics, phasor diagrams, machine cross-sections, waveform plots, and system diagrams — have been custom drawn for this text to match the notation used consistently throughout.
Prerequisites. Readers are assumed to have a working knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, basic calculus (differentiation and integration), and complex numbers. No prior exposure to electrical engineering is assumed; the book begins from first principles in Chapter 1.
Acknowledgements. This text draws on decades of established electrical engineering pedagogy and the standards published by IEEE, IEC, and national bureaus of standards. I am grateful to the generations of students whose questions shaped the explanations offered here, and to the broader engineering education community whose open textbooks, lecture notes, and technical standards form the shared foundation on which any textbook of this kind is built.
It is my sincere hope that this book serves not only as a course companion but as a lasting reference on the engineer’s shelf.
