Descrição do livro

The sea had been restless since dawn — a gray, heaving expanse that seemed to breathe with something alive beneath it. The Echopassage rode its back like a patient beast, timbers creaking in rhythm with the swell. The crew said the sea was warning them, that it whispered through the foam and salt. Captain Silkmark, however, had long learned that the sea’s voice was always one of deceit. It lured men with beauty, with calm horizons and sunlit waves, and swallowed them whole when they dared to believe it tame.
He stood upon the quarterdeck, tall and wiry, his coat dark as the thunderclouds that gathered on the horizon. The rest of the crew were a patchwork of sailors, smugglers, and drifters — men and women drawn to the Echopassage for reasons none would speak aloud.
“Wind’s shifting north,” Merrin said from the helm, her gaze fixed on the clouds that towered like mountains in the distance. “Pressure’s falling. Fast.”
Silkmark turned his head slightly, squinting toward the horizon. The clouds weren’t moving — they were forming. Dark, spiraling layers coiling upon themselves, streaked with veins of lightning that flashed soundlessly for now. The air itself thickened, damp and charged with static. The smell of ozone mingled with the brine.
“A storm,” Jorran muttered beside him. “A real bastard of one.”
Silkmark didn’t answer. His hand brushed the brass railing, tracing the engraved letters of the ship’s nameplate. Echopassage. The name had been carved by his own hand, after he’d bought
