Descrição do livro

The first crack came at dawn, though no one truly heard it. In Skypassage, dawn was a fragile illusion — a slow silvering of the clouds, a trembling glow through endless vapor. The sun had not touched the floating isles in generations, but still, the people marked its coming, the way sailors might count stars they could no longer see.
Lyra Wren was already awake when the sky split. She stood upon the rim of the aerolith ridge, her boots dusted with frost and cloud soot. Below her, the world hung in fragments — shards of islands suspended by invisible threads, each one linked by rope bridges and flickering lightrails. The air thrummed faintly, a pulse that lived in the stones and bones of Skypassage itself.
She was a sky-mender, or at least the closest thing her village had left to one. Her hands were scarred from years of fusing aerolith veins and sealing riftglass, her eyes trained to read the fractures that spiderwebbed across the firmament. Most days she worked beside the older mendwrights, patching the lightrails that kept the islands from drifting apart. But this morning, something had drawn her higher than the others — something in the wind’s voice.
The gusts were restless, murmuring like a warning through her braids. Lyra adjusted her goggles and leaned forward, scanning the horizon where the lightrails converged on the great bridge of Aethervane — the heart of Skypassage.
That was when the sky screamed.
A sound like thunder and glass shattering rolled across the clouds, deep enough to make her knees buckle. The lightrails flared white, then snapped one by one in a chain of blinding detonations. The bridge of Aethervane — a structure older than any record, built from sky-iron and runic stone — broke apart before her eyes. Chunks of radiant material tumbled into the storm bands below, leaving a widening scar of nothingness between the islands.
Lyra could only stare.
For a heartbeat, she felt as if the world had gone silent — until she heard the low, keening hum that rose from the abyss. It wasn’t just noise; it was a voice, ancient and mournful, echoing through the fracture like the memory of a forgotten god.
Then came the light.
From the wound in the sky burst a radiant flare, searing her vision. She shielded her face, stumbling backward as the wind exploded outward. Fragments of glasslike stone rained down around her, burning through her coat and hissing in the snow
