  When Burn Sullivant, nineteen, spots barrel racer Riley Sanders, he tries to suppress his attraction to her, vowing to focus solely on winning the roping event at his last high school rodeo finals—not on getting involved with a girl. Later, while leading his horse to its assigned stall, the horse nudges him into Riley, and he instinctively catches her in his arms before she falls. Up close, she is even more beautiful than he imagined, making it hard for him to let her go.

  Though she has always been shy, the cowboy's dark eyes shake her to her core. He is tall and strikingly handsome, and it feels right to be in his strong embrace. Despite avoiding boys for so long, she finds it impossible to push him away.

  He asks her out for lunch while they wait for the next performance to begin. At the drive-thru, emotions run high as he kisses her unexpectedly. The kiss takes Riley by surprise, making it impossible for her to think about her horse or the barrel race. What shocks her most is how eagerly she kisses him back. Before they part, they kiss again with urgency.
