In 1913, Buffalo Bill Cody is in trouble. He wants to retire, but his creditors insist that he put together a new Wild West Show so he has money coming in to pay them. Cody has been traveling the country auditioning acts. He, along with his show manager, Hal Tupper, and his primary star, Annie Oakley, stops in the Texas oil boomtown of Electra. The auditions are going poorly until a stranger, who calls himself Brushy Bill Roberts, steps onto the stage. Cody thinks he recognizes the Roberts as someone else, but he knows it can't be who he thinks it is. That man was killed by Pat Garret decades before. A private meeting between the two convinces Cody he is right. Cody realizes that if he can pull it off and make this man the star, the Wild West Show will be revitalized.

A problem rears its ugly head when Pinkerton Detectives arrive in Electra looking for a man named Henry (Hank) Antrim. Tupper sees the wanted poster and immediately recognizes that the Pinkertons are looking for Brushy Bill Roberts. Tupper tells Cody, but Cody refuses to turn Brushy Bill Roberts over to the Pinkertons.

How will Cody save Roberts? How will Cody save his own reputation? How will Cody protect a Western Legend?

In November 2025, in Tucson, AZ, while at the Wild Bunch Film Festival, several filmmakers, actors, writers, and other artists were having drinks after viewing the day's film selections. Carl Flood asked the group who was going to attend the Cowpoke International Film Festival in Electra, TX, in April 2026. Everyone at the table said they were. Carl then said it would be neat if they all got together and made a film together while they were there. Everybody agreed, but as the night went on, different subjects came up, and Carl's idea was lost in other conversations. Then one day in November, Carl called David and Gigi Davidson and asked if they were still interested in making a film in Electra. They said they were, so Carl said that if David would write a short story, Carl would adapt it into a screenplay, and they could make a short film. By December, David had written the story and sent it to Carl, who finished the screenplay in January. Glenda and Troy Cottle were contacted, and they said they were also interested. So, Days before the Cowpoke International Film Festival, Carl and Laura Flood, David and Gigi Davidson, and Glenda and Troy met in Electra, Texas, along with a host of other independent filmmakers, actors, and technicians. Together they made a film in two and a half days. While the film was in post-production, Carl found a possible distribution deal, but the film had to be at least 45 minutes long. So, back out to Electra, with blistering sun and windy conditions, members of the team assembled again to write and film more scenes.

This book celebrates the collaborative efforts of everyone involved by including the original short story, the original screenplay, and photographs taken during production.
