So much happened, so quickly, that even people who followed the news closely could become overwhelmed. Yesterday's outrage disappeared beneath todays, and events that once would have seemed unforgettable began fading from memory.

Author Craig Sherman calls this: SATURATION SYNDROME.

Derangement implies irrationality. Saturation means too much, too often, too fast.

Sherman learned something about saturation years earlier while attending Northwestern University. His Chicago apartment backed up to the elevated train tracks. Day and night, passing trains brought noise and vibration into the apartment. Eventually, he barely noticed them. You can learn to sleep through almost anything. But becoming numb to assaults on truth and democratic norms is considerably more dangerous than becoming accustomed to an "L" train.

Volume 1A returns to events from the period covered in Volume 1 - not to repeat that story, but to recover more of what became buried beneath the sheer volume of political chaos.

It also introduces more of the supporting cast surrounding America's 45th President - a collection Sherman calls: "The Despicable Clan."

The satire also ventures into darker territory. Drawing on accounts of Trump family history, including those brought to light by Mary Trump, Volume 1A examines episodes that help illuminate the character behind the public persona.

The humor may make the history easier to approach, but some of that history isn't funny at all.

Using rhyme, humor, straightforward language and illustrated satire, Sherman attempts to jog the reader's memory through a less painful genre - encouraging us not merely to remember what happened, but to recognize similar warning signs when they appear again.

One deliberate choice continues from Volume 1. Donald Trump has spent a lifetime turning his name into a brand. Sherman refuses to reward that obsession by repeatedly using it throughout the story.

In these pages, he remains simply:

"The Nut with a Gut."

The goal is not merely to mock.

It is to resist numbness.
