Richard Prince's second deposition in a Graham & McNatt v. Prince, a copyright infringement lawsuit, recorded in 2018, is one of the most significant artist's texts of the contemporary age. It's the most extensive interview Prince has ever given, at least since his last deposition in Cariou v. Prince. But this time, he knew it would be, and that made all the difference.
This is a softcover version of the unauthorized transcript made in 2023 for the artist book edition of The Second Deposition of Richard Prince. In addition to being formatted for ease of reading, it has a hand-crafted index optimized for art critical and historical engagement. This is in contrast to the raw, unformatted transcript generated by the deposition service provider, which has an automatically generated index that runs to almost a third of the book's total pagecount. That version, published by the artist as Deposition (2025), is available separately for the trueheads.
This softcover edition has been released on the occasion of Mr Prince's exhibition, Deposition, at Sant'Andrea de Scaphis in Rome in the Summer of 2025, and is made available here as a contribution to art historical completeness and discourse by greg.org.
