Pia and Marco stood out like a sore thumb amidst the hustle and bustle of Lisbon's Praca do Comercio. They had arrived early, eager to get their hands on tickets for the upcoming event they were so desperate to attend – an exclusive show with one of Portugal’s biggest stars: Zé Maria.
The pair reached down into their pockets and pulled out two crisp fifty-euro notes, exchanging nervous glances as they walked up to the ticket office window. “Good afternoon!” Pia called out, smiling at the woman behind the glass. “Two tickets to Zé Maria’s show please?" she asked in her best Portuguese.
The woman raised her eyebrows, taken aback by the couple’s enthusiasm. She looked up at the clock and back down again at Pia and Marco before nodding slowly. “Of course! We get started in a few minutes” she said warmly, slipping two tickets through the window with a smile.
Still in disbelief that they had managed to get their hands on tickets to such an exclusive show, Pia and Marco thanked the woman twice before making their way into the crowd outside of Teatro Sao Carlos – Lisbon’s very own opera house. Taking it all in, they were mesmerized by what lay ahead of them; bright street lights illuminated a beautiful cobbled street while a steady hum of chatter filled the air.
Pia and Marco’s excitement was palpable as they started to make their way down the steps in front of them, hand in hand. Street performers lined the sides of the steps, playing lively music that seemed to draw everyone’s attention. People began to move faster, captivated by what was about to happen inside.
In no time at all, Pia and Marco had reached the theater doors. They smiled nervously at each other before stepping through into an incredible atmosphere – full of anticipation for Zé Maria's show. Everywhere they looked was alive with color and sound, from small musical ensembles performing on every corner to posters plastered around the walls advertising upcoming shows.
As they stepped further into the theater, Pia and Marco could hardly believe what they were witnessing – a magical place that seemed to be frozen in time, with intricate details on every surface and a golden glow from above. The pair took their seats and looked up at the stage in awe, waiting for the show to begin."
