What makes poison so dangerous is the riddle of its onset, the

Carbon Monoxide–as it is just such a poison. As with most
poisonings, CO often begins as a mysterious ailment. This

toxic effects on the human body.
This book is also about prevention, about tools and educational
resources that can push our institutions, emergency
responders and medical personnel forward to a day with
reduced poisonings and fewer bad results. The core disability
to those who survive carbon monoxide is brain damage. Scores
more times people survive CO than are killed by it. But CO
doesn’t just cause disability through hypoxia (taking away
oxygen) but also by adding a poison to the blood stream.
Ultimately, forensic matters are about accountability and
lessons to be learned for prevention–prevention of future
disasters– prevention of unrecognized disability in poisoned
survivors.
What this particular edition adds to the first book in this series is additional chapters on understanding the disability and brain damage that comes with those who survive carbon monoxide poisoning. Whereas the first edition is directed more at individuals on the cause and origin side of the equation, firemen, HVAC techs, and emergency room doctors and nurses, this edition adds significant additional information about the outcome for the 40% of CO survivors who are likely to have DNS - delayed neurological sequelae.
Attorney Gordon S. Johnson, Jr. is someone whose job it is to be piece that puzzle that is carbon monoxide poisoning in a courtroom. Attorney Johnson has been proving brain damage in the Courtroom since 1992 and has devoted all of his professional time to CO for nearly a decade.
