Being disabled is simply a characteristic of being human and can be influenced by various factors. It's unfortunate that around 1.3 billion individuals, or around 16% of the world's population, face significant disabilities. This number is increasing due to factors like noncommunicable diseases and people living longer. It's critical to keep in mind that people with disabilities are a varied community, and their experiences and medical requirements may vary depending on things like age, gender, religion, and socioeconomic status. India has an extended record of participation in the Disability Rights Movement (DRM), starting from 1970. The movement has evolved over time, with significant developments in the Service and Employment Sector through acts like the Persons with Disabilities Act (PwDs) in 1995 and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act in 2016. These acts provide legal protection and equal Possibilities for those with impairments, but there are still challenges to overcome.
