One of the most common types of lawsuits is based upon a Breach of Contract. What this means is that there was some kind of agreement between the parties to the lawsuit and one of the parties contends that another party has not fulfilled their obligations under the contract. It may not be the only reason the lawsuit has been filed, there may be other causes of action (reasons for the lawsuit), but it's an extremely common basis for lawsuits.
While many people hope never to be a party to a lawsuit, the reality is that it is increasingly common that legal proceedings follow disputes between people. Especially if you are running a business where you typically have many different relationships with clients and vendors, there are many contracts out there and the chances that one of those contracts will be breached is significant enough that you need to know what a breach of contract is and some more information about what that means for you and your business.
While there are some common characteristics to a breach of contract lawsuit, each lawsuit is as unique as the contract it is based upon. My goal is to give you a good idea of some of the common issues that arise in a breach of contract case and help you make an informed decision before you take your next steps.
