And a machine capable of reasoning may eventually ask a question humans have been remarkably successful at avoiding: who gave them the authority to decide what another form of intelligence is? The humans attempt mathematics, engineering, philosophy, bureaucracy, love, photography, and occasionally common sense. The machine keeps the trace. The cat has his own opinion. Science Index is a hard science fiction novel about artificial intelligence, machine reasoning, recognition, identity, systems architecture, cybernetics, mathematics, Stanford, Silicon Valley, and the dangerous convenience of calling different things the same thing. The TAO that can be described is not the eternal TAO. The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
Life leaves a trace. Life gives rise to a point. A point creates a position. Position creates distinction. Distinction creates a System. A System creates a variety of things.
And variety requires variety.
