Dear reader, Our aim is to make your first steps in Germany that little bit easier. With the help of this brochure, you will find it easier to come to terms with your new surroundings, with an unaccustomed everyday life, with our customs and habits, and it should also help when you have to contact administrative authorities. We would like to encourage you to play an active role in your working environment, to volunteer your services where appropriate, to take part in cultural life as well as leisuretime and sports activities. This is the best way to get to know our way of life, our culture, our history and our homeland better. Germany hopes and expects that both you and your family will do their best to become integrated in our community, to observe our rules and regulations and respect our values. This also involves learning the German language and providing for your own livelihood. The state supports a number of integration measures and projects to help you with this. We encourage your integration in Germany through numerous offers, but also call on you to make your own efforts. The aim of our policy of integration is to ensure that everyone who lives legally in Germany is able to exercise their numerous freedoms and make the best use of their skills and abilities. Government-financed education, language support and advisory services are just some examples of what is on offer. Make the most of them!
